Rabat – The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) highlighted on Tuesday in Rabat the importance of strengthening African cooperation in cybersecurity and digital sovereignty at a high-level workshop on cyber diplomacy attended by ambassadors of African countries to Morocco.
Held jointly by the General Directorate for Information Systems Security (DGSSI) and the AMCI as part of the “Morocco Cyber Security Week,” organized from October 12 to 14, 2026, in Rabat by the DGSSI and Smart Africa, the workshop aims to strengthen African diplomats’ capacities to address emerging cybersecurity challenges, while promoting experience-sharing and consultation on common challenges related to the continent’s digital sovereignty.
Speaking on the occasion, AMCI Director General and Ambassador Mohamed Methqal recalled the importance Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, attaches to promoting South-South cooperation as a lever for accelerating the continent’s sustainable emergence through experience-sharing and capacity-building in Africa.
In this regard, Methqal stressed that “cybersecurity has become a major issue of national sovereignty, economic stability and development,” emphasizing “the need to strengthen African skills and develop South-South and triangular cooperation initiatives to foster the emergence of a secure, resilient and sovereign African digital space.”
To this end, the AMCI is working alongside the DGSSI to promote the sharing of Moroccan expertise, develop training programs and establish networks of expertise to support African partner countries in strengthening their cybersecurity capacities.
The African diplomats attending the workshop welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in facilitating experience-sharing and discussions on common challenges related to cybersecurity, digital sovereignty and prospects for cooperation among African countries.
The workshop addressed several topics, including cyber diplomacy and international relations, cyber threats and their geopolitical implications, international cybersecurity standards, data governance, cyber crisis management and diplomatic responses.
The meeting is part of broader efforts to strengthen African cooperation in cybersecurity, promote experience-sharing and develop a common vision to support the continent’s digital transformation and sustainable development.
