Meeting on Measures to Combat the Effects of the Cold Wave

Ouarzazate – A meeting was held yesterday, Tuesday, in Ouarzazate to review the proactive measures taken by the relevant authorities as part of efforts to address the effects of the cold wave during the winter period.

This meeting, chaired by the Governor of the Ouarzazate Province, Abdellah Jahid, and attended by the heads of external services, elected officials, and other civilian and military figures, provided an opportunity to present the main points of the provincial plan to combat the effects of the cold wave on the population, particularly in rural and isolated areas.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Jahid emphasized the importance of this gathering to assess the preparations of the various stakeholders involved in the efforts to combat the effects of the cold wave, to ensure the effectiveness of interventions on the ground, and to protect populations exposed to the harsh weather conditions.

In this regard, the governor called for a full mobilization of human and logistical resources and close coordination among the various stakeholders to ensure access to villages affected by the cold wave and to protect the local population from the effects of natural hazards.

This meeting included a presentation of the objectives and challenges of the provincial plan to combat the effects of the cold wave. The plan focuses on a proactive approach through the development of a map of the areas affected by the cold wave and the definition and allocation of tasks within the intervention committees.

This plan also aims to mitigate the impact of the cold wave through rapid interventions, support for the affected populations, and the implementation of all necessary measures to prevent a further deterioration of normal living conditions.

Operationally, the plan includes reactivating command and coordination structures, launching an awareness campaign, monitoring the health of vulnerable individuals (pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, etc.), mobilizing appropriate resources to support intervention operations, and pre-positioning intervention vehicles and equipment.

Within the framework of this plan, 173 villages (douars) across 11 municipalities in the Ouarzazate province have been identified as areas affected by snowfall, in addition to several roads at risk of traffic disruptions due to the snowfall.

During this meeting, participants reviewed the main points of the proactive action plans initiated by their respective departments, while emphasizing the importance of coordinating the efforts of the various stakeholders to ensure the optimal implementation of this plan.
