Morocco to See Heat Wave, Thunderstorms Through Tuesday

Rabat – A heat wave, along with thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, is expected to affect several provinces across Morocco from Saturday through Tuesday, the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said.

Under an orange-level weather alert, temperatures ranging from 42°C to 46°C are forecast from Saturday through Tuesday in the provinces of Assa-Zag, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Es-Semara and Zagora.

Temperatures between 38°C and 42°C are also expected from Saturday through Monday in Taounate, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Béni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Meknes, Khenifra, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taroudant, Guelmim, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khouribga, Settat, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Khemisset, Safi, Marrakech and Ouezzane.

The same temperature range is forecast for Sunday and Monday in Salé, Essaouira, Kenitra, Berrechid, Benslimane, Larache, Chichaoua, Skhirat-Témara, Nouaceur and El Jadida.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts, with rainfall amounts of 15 to 25 millimeters, are expected Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. in Ifrane, Midelt, Boulemane and Khenifra.
