United Nations (New York) – The Kingdom of Morocco served, on Thursday in New York, as the lead speaker on behalf of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) regarding the theme “Youth, Peace and Security” during the 11th informal joint seminar between the PSC and the United Nations Security Council.
Speaking on this occasion, Mohammed Arrouchi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, highlighted the central role of African youth in conflict prevention and resolution, peacebuilding, and democratic governance. He underscored their growing contribution to mediation efforts, social cohesion, and responses to emerging security threats.
The Ambassador emphasized the importance of strengthening the effective participation of young people in peace processes and preventive diplomacy – notably by granting them a greater role within dialogue mechanisms and peacebuilding initiatives at both national and regional levels.
The Moroccan diplomat also stressed the need to link the “Youth, Peace and Security” agenda with economic empowerment and sustainable development, by fostering opportunities for young people in fields such as entrepreneurship, innovation, trade, energy, and new technologies.
He highlighted the importance of youth participation in addressing emerging peace and security challenges, including the impacts of climate change, disinformation, and issues related to the responsible use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
