Isolation, Most Complex Challenge Facing Contemporary Societies – ICSW Pres.

Marrakech – The issue of social isolation has become one of the most complex challenges facing contemporary societies, emphasized the President of the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW), Sergei Zelenev, in Marrakech on Thursday.

During the opening ceremony of an international seminar organized by the ICSW, Zelenev spoke of finding realistic solutions and concrete recommendations to move beyond theoretical approaches and general statements in the fight against this growing social phenomenon.

He explained that holding this international meeting aims to analyze social isolation and explore mechanisms to strengthen the sense of belonging and social cohesion, specifying that the proceedings of this seminar will culminate in the adoption of the “Marrakech Declaration,” which will serve as a reference document containing operational solutions and recommendations that can be applied in the field.

Zelenev further added that this seminar brings together researchers, experts, and active stakeholders in development and social action fields, coming from several countries to discuss public policies and the mechanisms for combating marginalization and isolation, as well as fostering social inclusion.

Held under the theme “From Exclusion to Belonging: Promoting Inclusive Practices to Strengthen Social and Community Ties,” this international event seeks to identify practical, innovative, and replicable approaches for reinforcing community bonds and reducing loneliness and social isolation.

During this meeting, taking place on October 22-24, participants will focus on specific challenges faced by each region, emerging practices in Europe and the MENA region, transferable lessons, and concrete solutions.
