Armenia Supports Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, Considering it to ‘Pave Way for Strengthening Unity of Kingdom’s Territory’

United Nations (New York) – Armenia has expressed its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, considering it to “pave the way for strengthening the unity of the territory of the Kingdom of Morocco.”

This stance was expressed during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

On this occasion, Mirzoyan recalled the letter addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, in which he stressed “the particular importance of the Moroccan Initiative concerning the Sahara,” describing it as a “realistic political solution.”

In the letter, Pashinyan stated that Security Council Resolution 2797 represents a major turning point in the process of settling this issue, “paving the way for strengthening the territorial unity of the Kingdom of Morocco, for the benefit of peaceful coexistence and the prosperity of the peoples of the region.”

During the meeting, the two ministers also explored new avenues for bilateral cooperation and agreed on concrete measures to this end, to be taken in the near future. They also discussed regional and international issues.
