Arrest of an Italian drug trafficker wanted by Interpol for years

Elements of the Central Judicial Investigations Bureau (BCIJ) under the Directorate of Territorial Surveillance arrested in Rabat, an Italian national referred for several years by a red notice of the international organization Criminal Police (Interpol).

The arrest of the Italian citizen, who headed an international drug trafficking network of different types including hard drugs between Latin America and Europe, is in the context of international cooperation in the fight against the border organized crime, said Sunday a statement from BCIJ.

The respondent, who was staying in Morocco using a forged passport under a false identity, was arrested in Rabat after the field investigations and operations of spinning and monitoring have determined his true identity and whereabouts.

The operation to arrest took place under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor and in accordance with international laws and conventions in force, the source said.
