France Apologizes for Mistreating Morocco Minister

French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Fabius, apologized to Rabat for the inappropriate treatment towards the Moroccan Minister of foreign Affairs, Salaheddine Mezouar, in Paris at Charles De Gaulle airport on March 26th.

French Quai d’Orsay spokesman, Romain Nadal, said that Fabius, in a phone call to his Moroccan counterpart, Salaheddine Mezouar, “apologized for the ill treatment that the Moroccan minister was exposed to while transiting at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport,” after being “humiliatingly” searched at the airport security check point by making him remove his jacket, socks and shoes.

Nadal added that “the minister sent orders to inform concerned departments of the ministry and Paris Airport to enhance measures to appropriately deal with ministers, heads of governments and State leaders.” This apology is the second of its kind after the French government had to apologize to Morocco for a “legal complaint” lodged by French NGO ‘ACAT’ against the head of counter-intelligence body DGST, Abdellatif Hammouchi in Paris and an offensive declaration by France’ ambassador in Washington, few weeks ago.france morocco
