London – With the UN Security Council’s decision not to renew MINURSO’s mandate, Morocco’s autonomy plan is “the only option on the table” for resolving the Western Sahara dispute, British MP Andrew Murrison stated on Saturday.
“The Moroccan autonomy plan is the only option on the table, and all parties should support it,” Mr. Murrison, who has held several key ministerial posts, told MAP.
He also welcomed the support given by the United Kingdom and France, along with nine other Security Council members, to the draft resolution presented by the United States on the Western Sahara issue.
“The United Kingdom and France were right to support the American resolution at the UN,” he emphasized.
Furthermore, the British MP observed that “Russia’s behavior was predictable, and its counter-resolution was merely an attempt to postpone the inevitable,” noting that “its failure means that MINURSO’s modest mission is coming to an end.”
