Amsterdam – The Moroccan Embassy in The Hague and the Kingdom’s consulates general in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Den Bosch celebrated the first anniversary of Unity Day on Saturday in an atmosphere of national pride and patriotic fervor.
Held at the Dar Al Maghrib Moroccan cultural center in Amsterdam, the celebration reaffirmed the commitment to the values of national and territorial unity, the enduring principles of the nation, and the Kingdom’s historical identity and foundations.
Opening this cultural and artistic evening, the Moroccan Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mohamed El Basri, emphasized the significance and profound meaning of this commemoration of Unity Day, decreed for October 31, 2025, by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, following the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara.
This celebration pays solemn tribute to the principles of national unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Morocco, as well as to the values that unite the various components of the Moroccan people, Mr. El Basri stated.
The Ambassador noted that Unity Day celebrates not only the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, but also all the values and foundations of the unity of the Moroccan nation, the Moroccan people’s attachment to its enduring principles and sacred traditions, and their determination to defend their legitimate historical rights.
He also emphasized the multifaceted nature of this unity, which is rooted in the diversity of the components of Moroccan identity and rests on values of coexistence and respect, as well as on a model of society and civilization that has distinguished itself throughout history through its cultural and historical specificities.
Mr. El Basri commended the strong participation of members of the Moroccan community in this celebration, noting that it demonstrates once again their attachment to the Alawite Throne, the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, and all the components of national identity.
This mobilization also reflects the commitment of Moroccans around the world to preserving the unity and cohesion of society based on the values of solidarity, loyalty, and dedication, he added.
The evening was punctuated by musical performances from local artists, who took the audience on a journey through the diverse expressions of Moroccan musical heritage, showcasing the richness of its rhythms, the variety of its sounds, and the uniqueness of its traditions.
The Kingdom’s cultural diversity was also reflected in the traditional attire worn by the guests, many of whom proudly displayed the national colors, offering a glimpse into the richness of Moroccan dress traditions from the north to the south of the Kingdom.
