Rabat – The Secretary General of the Rabita Mohammadia of Ulemas, Ahmed Abbadi, advocated on Saturday in Rabat for religious discourse capable of addressing contemporary challenges.
Speaking at the opening of the 37th Academic Council of the Rabita Mohammadia of Ulemas, Mr. Abbadi emphasized the importance of religious discourse that effectively addresses the pressing contemporary issues of the modern world, while also having a real impact on citizens’ lives.
The effectiveness of religious discourse requires its adaptation to the intended audience, whether an individual or a group, explained Mr. Abbadi, stressing the imperative of considering the complexity of society in order to ensure relevant religious guidance.
The official noted that the work of the 37th Academic Council focuses on the concept of “representational and perceptual maps” as a cornerstone of religious discourse that integrates societal specificities and their direct impact on individuals’ lives.
To achieve this objective, he emphasized the need to draw upon other disciplines to understand the specificities of society, including sociology, anthropology, statistics, and artificial intelligence.
Highlighting the role of the Ulema in developing an inclusive religious discourse, Mr. Abbadi reviewed the efforts undertaken by the Rabita over the past ten years, culminating in the creation of an 11-volume encyclopedic work addressing the formulation and renewal of religious discourse.
The agenda of the 37th Academic Council includes, in particular, a review of the institution’s progress report and the presentation of its action plan.
