Baghdad – Morocco called on Sunday in Baghdad for resolving regional crises through dialogue and peaceful means, while respecting States’ sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, rejecting escalation and confrontation.
Addressing the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baghdad, Fouad Yazourh, Ambassador and Director General of International Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s solidarity with OIC member states targeted by aggression, condemning such acts as violations of international law, the UN Charter and good neighborliness.
He reiterated Morocco’s rejection of attacks against Saudi Arabia, particularly those targeting holy sites and critical infrastructure.
Yazourh also reaffirmed that the Palestinian cause and Al-Quds remain at the forefront of Morocco’s foreign policy, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee. He reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Al-Quds as its capital and the Gaza Strip as an integral part, in line with the two-state solution and relevant international resolutions.
He further highlighted Morocco’s political and diplomatic efforts to safeguard Al-Quds’ legal and historical status, alongside the concrete initiatives undertaken by Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency to support the resilience of the city’s inhabitants and safeguard its spiritual and civilizational character.
Addressing regional security challenges, Yazourh warned of growing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb, which threaten maritime navigation and global energy supply chains. He stressed that strategic waterways must remain open, safe and stable, rejecting their use as instruments of geopolitical or economic pressure. In this regard, he recalled Morocco’s call, on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, for a code of conduct for States bordering these waterways.
Morocco further called for stronger coordination among OIC member States to address mounting political, economic, humanitarian and security challenges, stressing the importance of national unity, combating hate speech and Islamophobia, rejecting interference in internal affairs, and promoting mediation, reconciliation and regional stability.
In addition to Yazourh, the Moroccan delegation participating in this 52nd session includes, Khalid Bencheikh, Director of Maghreb, Arab, and Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mohamed Jamal Chaqchaq, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the OIC, and Salaheddine Boulahrouz, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Baghdad.
