PPS Has Not Yet Decided on Its Political Positioning for Next Stage – Party SG

Rabat –  Secretary-General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, said on Wednesday in Rabat that the party has not yet decided on its political positioning for the next stage.

In a statement to the press following his meeting with appointed Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, who has been tasked with forming the new government, Benabdallah said that a clear and ongoing debate has been taking place within the party since the elections, stressing that the PPS has not, to date, made a final decision on how to approach this new stage.

He noted that this issue is also linked to the positions of other national political parties, adding that the PPS will continue its internal discussions in order to adopt the appropriate position.

He further said that the party will await the completion of this first round of consultations, which could be followed by another meeting, before considering the various options that may arise in this regard.

Benabdallah also stressed that the appointment of El Mansouri as Head of Government carries strong symbolic significance, as it marks the first time in Morocco’s history that a woman has been appointed to head the government.

Benabdallah also noted that the meeting with El Mansouri provided an opportunity to learn about a number of policy orientations underpinning the approach of the appointed Head of Government and the leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), as well as to highlight certain issues of particular concern to PPS members.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to reaffirm certain fundamental principles guiding the action of the Party of Progress and Socialism, notably the need to consolidate the democratic space, freedoms and rights, as well as the issue of promoting integrity in public life, which raises numerous questions within society.
