National Council of Istiqlal Party to Consider Joining New Government, Says Party SG

Rabat – Secretary-General of the Istiqlal Party (PI) Nizar Baraka stated Wednesday in Rabat that the party’s National Council will consider the possibility of joining the new government and will evaluate the results of the September 23 elections.

In a statement to the press following his meeting with Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, as part of her consultations with political parties regarding the formation of the new government, Baraka affirmed that the Istiqlal Party will continue to “support this political endeavor, regardless of the position it may hold.”

Morocco today needs a broad-based mobilization to move beyond the logic of electoral competition and engage in a process of strengthening the domestic front in order to address geostrategic, economic, and social challenges, particularly employment, unemployment, the protection of purchasing power, and the expansion of the middle class, he argued.

The IP Secretary-General welcomed the Royal trust placed in El Mansouri, the first woman in Morocco to be appointed head of a government and tasked with forming it, emphasizing that this is “a historic moment and an important event for Morocco and Moroccan women.”

This meeting was an opportunity to exchange views and discuss the many challenges that lie ahead, particularly recovering trust in political action.

Participants in the meeting included Abdellatif Ouahbi, Fouzi Lekjaa, and Ahmed Akhchichine, representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), as well as Abdeljebbar Rachidi, Abdessamad Qayouh, and Mohamed Ould Errachid, on behalf of the Istiqlal Party.
