Moroccan Road Safety Agency Clarifies 2026 License Plate Replacement Deadline

Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) issued a statement on Friday refuting widespread reports that all motor vehicles in the country must replace their license plates before December 31, 2026.

Addressing recent public confusion and misinformation regarding Decision No. 640.26 published on August 3, NARSA clarified that the late-2026 deadline is not a universal requirement for all vehicles currently in circulation. Instead, the regulation outlines specific transitional provisions based on vehicle category and usage:

National Circulation (Standard Plates): Vehicles registered in the normal series with standard plates lacking Latin characters remain valid indefinitely until the vehicle’s first change of ownership (sale or transfer).

International Circulation: Vehicles bearing normal series plates fitted with Latin characters and the separate national identifier “MA” for international travel may continue using them until December 31, 2026.

NARSA urged all road users and motorists to rely solely on official channels for regulatory updates to avoid misinterpretations of the new legal provisions.
