Covid-19: Morocco Has Avoided the Worst and Post-June 10 Period Requires Global Mobilization

The head of government, Saad Dine El Otmani said Wednesday in Rabat that the overall mobilization of the nation’s active forces at the level of political parties, trade unions and civil society is “essential to succeed in the post-June 10 phase” in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

“Morocco has managed to avoid the worst” and will successfully overcome the next stage as it did in the previous one, said El Otmani who was speaking at a consultation meeting by videoconference with the leaders of the political parties represented in Parliament.

The head of government assured, in this regard, that the launch of the initiative of consultations with political formations, trade unions and associations is part of the strong and global mobilization for the post-June 10 period, at the health, economic and social levels, said a statement by the head of government Department.

“We are proud of the guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, who has given His directives for taking proactive and forward-looking decisions of a humanitarian and social nature,” the statement added, quoting the head of government.

He stressed that this meeting serves as an opportunity to deepen the debate on deconfinement measures in the light of the reports of specialists and experts as well as those emanating from the scientific Commission and the steering Committee.

In this regard, the head of government said that the management of the next phase depends essentially on the evolution of the epidemiological situation, which is currently under control thanks to the efforts of health workers working day and night, while advocating greater mobilization and respect for health rules by all.

Referring to the economic aspect, the head of government noted the close monitoring of the economic situation, both nationally and internationally, particularly at the level of economic partners, stressing that Morocco is preparing to adopt an amending finance bill for 2020, in addition to drawing up a plan to revive the national economy.

He also highlighted the success achieved during this period in terms of adequate supply of basic necessities to the national market, congratulating the sectors mobilized to succeed in such a challenge.

In addition, El Otmani praised the efficiency of the national pharmaceutical industry, which has made it possible to meet most of the country’s needs for medicines and medical equipment.

During this meeting with the leaders of political parties represented in Parliament, the minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaaboun, made a presentation in which he reviewed the economic measures deployed to manage the repercussions of this unprecedented health crisis, as well as the broad outlines of the plan to revive the national economy and the preparation of the amending finance bill.
