Covid-19: (74) New Confirmed Cases in Morocco, 7,406 in Total

Seven regions did not register any new cases of Covid-19 infection in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said on Saturday.

They are the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Draâ-Tafilalet, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laayoune-Sakia Hamra, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Souss-Massa and Beni Méllal-Khénifra, said director of epidemiology and disease control at the Ministry of Health Mohamed El Youbi, in his daily briefing.

In addition, 74 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been recorded during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of contamination cases to 7,406, said El Youbi, adding that the majority of these new cases have been identified in the city of Casablanca (55), including 47 within two previously registered epidemiological clusters. The rest of the cases were detected through the medical monitoring of contact persons, he noted.

261 new cases of recovery have been recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,638, said the official, noting that the recovery rate is constantly increasing (62.6%).

The number of fatalities rose to 198, after the announcement of a new death in the past 24 hours, said the official, adding that the fatality rate remains stable at 2.7%.

The total number of excluded cases has reached 126,155 since the outbreak of the pandemic, after negative tests of 10,085 cases in the past 24 hours, he said.

Regarding active cases, the official noted that 2,570 patients are currently under treatment or medical monitoring, adding that the Casablanca-Settat region has the highest number of active cases (20%), followed by Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Tangier -Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknès and Marrakesh-Safi (6pc), while the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region has currently no active cases.

From a geographic point of view, Casablanca-Settat tops the regions with the highest number of confirmed cases (32%), followed by Marrakesh-Safi (18%) Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (13%), Fez-Meknes (13%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Draa-Tafilalet, noted El Youbi.

The Ministry of Health invites citizens to respect the rules of hygiene and health security, as well as the preventive measures taken by the Moroccan authorities, by showing responsibility and patriotism.
