Foreign Ministry Flatly Rejects ‘Dangerous and Irresponsible’ Statements by SG of Istiqlal Party on Mauritania’s Borders and Territorial Integrity, Statement
In a press release issued on Monday, the ministry said it has been following, with concern, the controversy stirred by the dangerous and irresponsible statements made by secretary general of the Istiqlal Party concerning the borders and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
The foreign affairs ministry flatly rejects these statements which undermine relations with a brotherly neighboring country and show a real ignorance of the Moroccan diplomacy’s orientations, laid by HM the King, and which advocate good neighborliness, solidarity and cooperation with the sister nation of Mauritania, said the release.
Morocco officially declares its full respect for the known and recognized borders, under the international law, of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and its territorial integrity, it added.
It is confident that the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, its president, government and people, will give no importance to this kind of statements which are prejudicial only to the person making them, it noted.
The Kingdom of Morocco is driven by a sincere will to develop its relations with Mauritania to the level of a strategic partnership, based on the strong, historical ties between the two brotherly peoples, and the mutual trust and respect, taking account of the huge opportunities the two countries offer and the challenges they are facing, it added.
Unfortunately, through this kind of immature, open statements, the secretary general of the Istiqlal Party agrees with the logic of the enemies of Morocco’s territorial integrity who are fighting to prevent its legitimate return to its African institutional family, it concluded.
