HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), inaugurated, on Monday at the Mohammed V Military Hospital in Rabat, a center of virology, infectious and tropical diseases.
The 210-million-dirham center, built upon High instructions of HM the King, illustrates the constant benevolence granted by the Sovereign to members of the Royal Armed Forces and His enlightened vision to improve the performance of the national health system, the development of scientific research, South/South cooperation and the fight against bioterrorism threats.
Endowed with state-of-the-art equipment, the center of virology, infectious and tropical diseases is entrusted with the diagnosis and treatment of viral, bacterial, parasitic and fungal infectious diseases, and supports highly contagious diseases requiring containment, including tropical and travel diseases.
The center, which reinforces the international network of monitoring emerging and re-emerging diseases, will promote continuous education and research in infectiology, the development of innovative techniques for the diagnosis of emerging viruses, as it will provide public health activities and health monitoring within the FAR Health Service.
Built on a lot of 5,575 square meters, the new facility of treatment and research is endowed with a virology laboratory in charge of handling dangerous pathogens for Man and the environment, the development of techniques and new tests to deal with emerging viruses and new variants, epidemiological surveillance and biosecurity related activities.
Upon His arrival at the Mohammed V Military Hospital, HM the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, was welcomed by Lieutenant General Bouchaib Arroub, FAR’s Inspector General and commander of the Southern Zone, and Brigadier general doctor Abdelkrim Mahmoudi, FAR’s Inspector of health service.
After reviewing a detachment of honor of the headquarters battalion, the Sovereign was greeted by Head of Government Abdelilah Benkirane, Health Minister El Hossein El Ouardi, and Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of the Administration of National Defense Abdelatif Loudiyi.
HM the King was also greeted by Lieutenant-General Hosni Benslimane, commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, inspectors of the Royal Air Forces, the Royal Navy and FAR Engineering, the Head of the 3rd bureau of the FAR General Staff, Deputy Commander of the Rabat-Salé region and the head doctor of the Mohammed V military Hospital.
