The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing the Skhirate Agreement, signed on December 17 in the outskirts of Rabat, providing for the formation of a national unity government, and expressed its gratitude to Morocco’s contribution.

Resolution 2259, submitted by the United Kingdom, recognized the contribution of Member States to host and support the meetings of that dialogue, including the countries of the region “in particular the Kingdom of Morocco for its efforts in advancing the Agreement, including through hosting the Libyan Political Dialogue”.

As soon as the Skhirate agreement was signed last Thursday, UN Secretary General UN Ban Ki-moon expressed its appreciation to HM King Mohammed VI.

“I thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Government of Morocco for hosting the signing ceremony”, Ban ki-moon said in a statement on the signing of the Libyan Political Agreement.
