Morocco has a positive appreciation of its model multidimensional cooperation with Spain in the field of immigration, said on Wednesday in Malta foreign minister Salaheddine Mezouar.
Morocco is glad that the political declaration and action plan, which will be adopted following the Europe-Africa summit on immigration, will consolidate achievements and capitalize on successful experiences in terms of concerted management of immigration, said the minister.
Mezouar, who was speaking at the opening session of the summit, noted that Morocco plays a major role in the search for a joint migratory approach between countries of origin, transit and destination.
Over the past years, the Kingdom has become a destination for many African immigrants. “Loyal to its tradition of hospitality, Morocco has launched a new pioneer immigration policy in the region to enable immigrants enjoy all their legitimate rights,” he added.
This policy helped regularize the situation of immigrants and asylum seekers as well as set up a mechanism to provide emergency humanitarian assistance for vulnerable immigrants mainly women and children.
The Moroccan delegation includes notably minister in charge of Moroccan expatriates and immigration affairs Anis Birou, Morocco’s ambassador to the EU Menouar Alem and Morocco’s ambassador to Italy Hassan Abouyoub.
The La Valletta summit will be marked by the launch of a Fund for Africa at the EU’s initiative for an amount of 1.8 billion euros over 5 years.
