Algeria has decided to boycott the African Championship of Handball Clubs Champions, scheduled from October 21 to 30 in Nador. The participation of Saharan club Wydad Smara in the competition is the origin of the Algerian decision.

The draw, held yesterday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, was preceded by strong Algerians pressure backstage to disqualify the Moroccan champion. But the Algerian attempts have ended in failure. The office of the African Handball Confederation has not been unconvinced by political considerations representatives of the eastern neighbor.

This is not the first time that the Algerian authorities take such a decision. In October 2013, the Groupement sportif team petroleum (GSP), owned by Sonatrach, was forced by the Algerian Ministry of Youth and Sports to withdraw from the African Clubs Champions Championship held in Morocco.

Again, it was the presence of Wydad Smara was bothering the neighbors to the east. In 2014 Algeria had also boycotted the same competition held in Tunis because of Wydad Smara.
