Morocco: 4 Years in Prison for Five Individuals in Charge of Terrorism
The Criminal Chamber of first degree in charge of terrorism cases in the annex of Salé Court of Appeal delivered Thursday, judgments ranging from acquittal to 4 years in prison against five defendants in separate cases related to terrorism.
Regarding the first issue, the court imposed a sentence of four years imprisonment against an accused, while another was sentenced to three years in prison. Two defendants were sentenced to two years imprisonment in two separate cases, when a person went on to state bail was acquitted.
These individuals have been prosecuted each in regards to “setting up a criminal gang with the aim of preparing and committing terrorist acts as part of a collective project to seriously undermine public order through intimidation and violence, glorification of terrorist acts with recidivism and public meetings without authorization. ”
In his closing arguments, the representative of the public prosecutor had requested the maximum sentence for the accused and sentencing under sections of the prosecution. For its part, the defense sought acquittal for the benefit of the doubt.
