Participants in the inaugural conference of the Moroccan-American Initiative on “border security”, organized in collaboration with the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (Global Forum for fight against terrorism) (GCTF) and the United Nations Centre against Terrorism (CTC), pleaded Wednesday in El Jadida, for the establishment of a common cross-border strategy based on cooperation between agencies involved in border control, as well as promoting dialogue and exchange to fight against terrorism and therefore ensure the safety of national borders.
Following the work of this conference in El Jadida of July 21 to 22, participants stressed that the constructive common border cooperation and the use of best practices developed are capable of ensuring border security against acts of terrorism. They, at the same, called for the need to pay special attention to local communities borders of the Maghreb and the Sahel.
After saluting the commendable efforts made by the Kingdom in the framework of the Moroccan-American Initiative on “border security”, experts have called this very successful conference that allowed African and Arab countries to take advantage of the many experiences in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.
This international meeting provided a platform to exchange, discuss and analyze gaps relating to terrorism and border security, but also to share good practices of cooperative border management, they noted.
This forum was attended by some thirty countries, was an opportunity to renew the framework of the Moroccan-American Initiative on “border security” provide government officials, representatives of international organizations and other experts the opportunity to exchange ideas and build lasting professional networks.
During this two-day meeting, participants debated several issues on border security and other issues including on “The cooperative / integrated border management”, “Assessment of threat and risk analysis of the border monitoring, collection and analysis of information “or” effective surveillance of the green and blue borders Models “.
“The strengthening of border cooperation and information exchange between local communities, neighboring states and associated regions” and “Methods to increase standards for monitoring green and blue borders, based on lessons learned and best practices developed in order to reduce the uncontrolled movement of unauthorized persons “were also discussed at this international meeting.
To remind that the Kingdom of Morocco had repeatedly expressed its commitment to the adoption of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy of the United Nations (UN) and to work with all States to adopt an approach transparent and strengthen the capacity of members to fight against terrorism.
The inaugural conference of the Moroccan-American Initiative on “border security” started Tuesday in El Jadida, with the participation of more than thirty countries.
