After Agreements Libyan Parties Will Work on Formation of National Unity Government

Skhirat – After initialling the Skhirat Agreement, the Libyan parties to the conflict will need to address two main points, namely the formation of a national unity government and the Annexes to this agreement, said on the night of Saturday to Sunday, in Skhirat, on the outskirts of Rabat, the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (Manul) Bernardino Leon.

Regarding the absence of representatives of the General National Congress (CNG), the UN envoy stressed “we can always find a solution” to the differences, noting that it is not a question of “substantial differences or background” .

He, moreover, thanked the participants in this dialogue and the countries and actors that played a “very important” role in facilitating these discussions, including Morocco and King Mohammed VI.

For its part, Mezouar said the agreement is a “important” step on the road to peace, stability and national unity of Libya.

“Despite the differences and different obstacles, the Libyan people have shown a great level of maturity and expressed their determination to build a democratic and united Libya, where respect for human rights and coexistence between all components of society are the watchwords, ” he began.

“We are delighted that the city of Skhirat houses the initialling of this historic agreement, the current version is the best possible under the circumstances, not only vis-à-vis the domestic situation in Libya but also seen regional contexts and international, ” he noted.

The agreement, which will be comprehensive and aims to accompany the transition period in Libya, particularly concerns the institutional structure of the country, the government of national unity and security arrangements, has he indicated, adding that SM King Mohammed VI directions , the long-term work carried out by the Manul, besides the spirit of selflessness shown by the parties to the conflict have favored the culmination of this agreement.

Stressing that the results of the current negotiation process are the result of a partnership between the UN and Morocco, Mezouar stressed that the Kingdom will remain mobilized to uphold the interests of Libya and its North African membership.

The representatives of the signatories, including the internationally recognized parliament, told parliament Tobruk, independent and civil society welcomed, meanwhile, the initialling of the Agreement Skhirat, calling the CNG to join this agreement in order the country out of the political and military crisis in the for over 3 years.
