United States Reiterated “Strong Support” for Inter-Libyan Political Talks in Morocco
Washington – The United States reiterated on Monday its “strong support” to the inter-Libyan dialogue held in Morocco in order to reach an agreement on a national unity government and end the political crisis in Libya.
“We strongly support the political process hosted by Morocco under the aegis of the UN in order to move towards a political settlement,” said a spokesman of the State Department, Jeff Rathke, during the American diplomacy daily press briefing .
The US official welcomed, in this regard, the progress made in the context of these recent discussions in Skhirat. He further expressed the support of Washington to the efforts of the UN special representative (SRSG), Bernardino Leon, while expressing the wish to see these negotiations resume as soon as possible.
The city of Skhirat hosted five rounds of inter-Libyan political talks under the auspices of the UN representative with the participation of key stakeholders, including the two rival parliaments.
The fifth round was held last week, after which the Libyan parties responded “positively” to the latest proposal of comprehensive political agreement presented by the UN to leave Libya crisis, says Leon .
