Algeria’s strategy is “very worrying” About Insecurity in the Sahel

Brussels- The Algeria’s strategy for the Sahel region is “very worrying” because it does not apprehend the issue of insecurity following a regional approach, said Wednesday the former Vice President of the European Parliament, Isabelle Durant.

The situation of instability and insecurity in some Sahelian countries has a direct impact on the whole region and beyond, but the strategy of the Algerian leaders is not to a true regional approach, regretted Mrs Durant in his talks in Brussels with the President of the Environment and Sustainable Development Party (ESDP), Ahmed Alami.

“From this point of view, this is very worrying,” noted Mrs Durant, noting that faced with this situation, the Europeans in their contacts with Algerian officials must be able each time to advocate for regional solutions that will be with neighbors and not by Algeria alone.

“I believe that if we are to avoid the Algerian people to relive the situations he has experienced in the past, Algeria’s interests to be with those who want dialogue,” noted the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Transport.

The talks between Mrs Durant and Mr Alami focused particularly on the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the situation in the Sahel, the problem of migration in the Mediterranean, as well as many other topics related to the environment.
