Fight against drought in the Sahel CILSS 17th Summit on 15 April in Bamako

The 17th Summit of the Permanent Interstate Committee for fight against Drought in the Sahel (CILSS) will be held April 15 in Bamako, said an official source in the Malian capital.

“In preparation for the Summit, the Malian Minister of Rural Development, Bokary Treta, recently conducted a fact-finding mission in five countries of the sub-region, namely Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, Guinea and Chad, ” added the same source.

In N’Djamena, “the Malian delegation reported on the results of its mission to the Chadian President Idriss Deby, who proposed the date of April 15, 2015 to hold the 17th Conference of Heads of State and Government of CILSS in Bamako, “said a statement from the Malian Ministry of Rural Development.

The summit will be preceded by a meeting of the “Regional Committee of Programming and Monitoring” and a regular session of the “Council of Ministers of CILSS,” it is added.

International organizationof  Sahelian countries, CILSS was created in 1973 at the first major drought that hit the region. The Committee used especially for the realization of projects in the areas of food security and natural resource management.
