Dakhla – Former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, said on Friday that its participation in the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla, emanates from the interest he has consistently brought to African development.
“My participation in the Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla is part of the interest I have constantly brought to the development of Africa,” said Zapatero in a statement to the press on the sidelines of this event.
“The cooperation and dialogue with Africa are two major issues that have been the focus of my priorities during my terms as head of the Spanish government” (2004/2011), he said.
He stressed that all initiatives dedicated to support cooperation and dialogue between Africa and Europe are “important and welcome”, adding that he constantly attends such meetings.
Zapatero also highlighted the ties of history and good neighborliness existing between Spain and the countries of the southern Mediterranean, saying his country as an influential member of the Union European, is called to “play a key role in promoting cooperation and understanding between the two parties.”
“These issues are of a special character for me, ” insisted the former head of the Spanish government, also focusing on development and cooperation opportunities offered by the Crans Montana Forum.
In Mr. Zapatero, the meeting of Dakhla, which brings together personalities from around the world, also offers the opportunity to discuss issues that concern humanity and promote rapprochement and understanding between cultures and civilizations through dialogue.
