Geneva – Ms Hilal Elver, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, will make his first visit to Morocco in June.
Mrs. Elver visit to the Kingdom was announced after a meeting she had with the Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Kingdom in Geneva on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Council Human Rights (HRC).
The visit was part of the opening of Morocco on the Special Procedures mechanism of the HRC and its continuous interaction with the UN system of human rights for years.
This positive interaction allows to support the efforts of the Kingdom for the promotion and protection of human rights, including economic, social and cultural rights.
The mandate of the Special Rapporteur, established in 2000 before it was expanded by the HRC in 2006, aims to monitor and control the status of the right to food in the world. It is to determine the general trends related to the right to food, particularly through country visits.
The rapporteur is responsible for contact with states and other stakeholders on alleged violations of the right to food and other matters connected therewith, the objective being the full realization of this right through dialogue with all stakeholders.
