Hot weather with temperatures reaching up to 44°C in several regions of Morocco

The beginning of September 2026 in Morocco was marked by a striking meteorological contrast: record temperatures, peaking at 47.1°C in Sidi Slimane, coexisted with intense thunderstorm activity across several regions. The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) attributes this phenomenon to the convergence of Saharan heat, tropical humidity, and pockets of cold air aloft.

The mercury also reached between 36 and 40°C in the provinces of Meknes, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Essaouira, Mediouna, Nouaceur, Rabat, Salé, Skhirate-Temara, El Jadida, Safi, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Inezgane-Aït Melloul, Tiznit, Benslimane, Berrechid, Casablanca, Mohammedia, Khenifra, and Larache.
