Libya peace talks resume in Morocco

Inter-Libyan political talks began Thursday afternoon in Skhirat on the outskirts of Rabat, attended by representatives of the warring parties to find a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Libya.

On Wednesday, the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced the imminent held in Morocco the next round of the Libyan political dialogue, after all the invited parties have expressed their agreement to participate in this meeting.

“The parties have formally communicated their decision to take part in this dialogue after close consultation with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Bernardino Leon, during his visit to Tobruk and Tripoli March 2, 2015,” had UNSMIL said in a statement.

Libyan parties are aware of the urgency to take the only viable way dialogue process to find a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Libya, and to achieve a sustainable end to the armed conflict.

During these talks, the warring parties will attempt to agree on the proposal MANUL stating that this round of talks focused on the formation of a national unity government, including the discussion of the future Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers on security arrangements tagging the way for a comprehensive cease-fire, the withdrawal by step all the armed groups of towns and cities, weapons-related measures and arms control and appropriate mechanisms for supervision and implementation, as well as the completion of the constitutional drafting process in a clear deadline. ”

In chaos since 2011, Libya is run by two parliaments and two rival governments, one is near the Fajr Libya militia coalition that controls the capital Tripoli and the other is recognized by the international community and headquarters in Tobruk (est).

Representatives of the two parliaments had held on 11 February in Ghadames, in the south, indirect negotiations under the auspices of the UN, the first of its kind since the launch of the national dialogue end of September 2014.

The head of the UN Mission Bernardino Leon had separate consultations with delegations, noting that the goal was to reach an agreement on forming a unity government.
