Morocco Condemned human rights violations in Tindouf

Morocco has condomned Tuesday in the Council of Human Rights (CHR), violations of rights and freedoms of people in the Tindouf camps, reiterating its call for their identification and lifting the blockade imposed on them.

Speaking at the high-level segment of the UNHRC in Geneva, the Minister with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Ms. Mbarka Bouaida, drew attention to the plight of people in the camps because of the violation of their rights and diversion of humanitarian aid.

This diversion of aid, she added, was revealed by the report of the EU Anti-Fraud Office and other international reports.

The Minister took the opportunity to launch a new call for lifting the blockade on the populations of the Tindouf camps, the protection of fundamental rights and individual freedoms, in preparation for their return to the motherland, Morocco.

She also urged the international community to intervene to bring the host country to facilitate the mission of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) so that it can carry out a comprehensive and transparent census of the inhabitants of the camps.

Ms. Bouaida noted that the reforms and achievements benefit all regions of the Kingdom, including its southern provinces that have experienced sustained progress in economic and social terms and whose rate was reinforced by the new development model of the region.

Moroccan Sahara populations are fully integrated and heavily involved in all local and national elections since 1976, continued the minister. She has, in this respect, recalled that the Security Council, the UN Secretary General and the High Commissioner for Human Rights welcomed the pioneering role of national mechanisms, in particular the National Council of Human Rights Rights (CNDH) and its regional commissions in Laayoune and Dakhla.

“Morocco, which reiterates its commitment to cooperate with the UN Secretary General and his personal envoy, called the other parties to engage seriously in the search for a consensual solution to this artificial dispute, on the basis of the autonomy initiative in the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, “she added.

Furthermore, the Minister explained that the strategy adopted by Morocco in the consolidation of the rule of law is based on the implementation of legal and institutional reforms, but also the dedication of the concept of proximity.

It is, she says, to establish new mechanisms for the promotion of human rights in their global acceptance, economic, socio-cultural and environmental throughout all regions of the Kingdom.
