Morocco: Eight years for the former Spanish military accused of terrorism

Eighteen people arrested for terrorist acts were sentenced Thursday by the Court of Appeal of Salé to sentences ranging from three to ten years in prison. Those sentenced a former Spanish military of Moroccan origin, arrested in January 2014 to serve a sentence of eight years in prison.

The court also sentenced to 10 years in prison one in question, and seven years in prison for another man. Seven defendants have also gets six years in prison, three of five, two three-year farm and three two years.

The defendants were prosecuted for “constitution of criminal gang to prepare and commit acts of terrorism within the framework of a collective enterprise, with recurrence, belonging to a banned religious organization and public meetings without authorization.”

In January 2014, the Interior announced the dismantling of a “jihadist” cell bustling in Nador, Tetouan, Al Hoceima, Taza, Fez and Marrakech. The leader of this cell, which fought with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan had also served in the Spanish army during his stay in Melilla.
