The UK welcomes the progress made by Morocco in the Human Rights
The British government welcomed “significant progress” made by Morocco in the defense and promotion of human rights for the consecration of the rule of law.
Morocco has made “significant progress in terms of human rights,” said the British minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Tobias Ellwood, in reply to a question in Parliament on Thursday the United Kingdom.
The senior Foreign Office also welcomed Morocco’s accession to international conventions of universal human rights such as the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment and Convention on the Rights of the Child.
“We recognize and support Morocco’s commitment to adhere to international standards in the conventions of universal human rights,” said the British minister.
“We welcome the ratification by Morocco of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture in December 2014,” he said.
On the issue of territorial integrity, Mr. Ellwood reiterated the position of Britain “supporting the UN’s efforts to achieve a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution.”
