3 Moroccan peacekeepers Killed in a traffic accident in Ivory Coast (UNOCI)

Abidjan- The United Nations Operation in Ivory Coast (UNOCI) announced Wednesday in Abidjan, the deaths of three Moroccan peacekeepers in a traffic accident that occurred on 27 January, five kilometers Guiglo in the west of the country.

A statement from the UNOCI indicates that the victims were in escort mission aboard a military vehicle, noting that two Moroccan soldiers of the UN force had passed away on the spot, while the third succumbed to his injuries Monday, February 2 current, in a clinic in Abidjan.

Members of the 21st Moroccan contingent of UNOCI, the three soldiers were deployed in the UN Mission in November, will be recalled. Their death brings to 86 the number of peacekeepers who have died since the beginning of the mission in April 2004 in Ivory Coast.

The same source noted that the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Ivory Coast and the entire UNOCI staff present their sincere condolences to the Moroccan contingent and to the bereaved families and Moroccan authorities.
