Ethiopian athletes dominated the 26th edition of the Marrakech International Marathon (MIM), played Sunday at the Ochre City.
The Ethiopian Tiruneh Workneh Tesfa won this edition, this year placed under the sign of awareness of environmental protection, while his compatriot Wolkenech Edesa was awarded the victory in the ladies category.
Tiruneh Workneh Tesfa ran the race in 2 hours 08 minutes 51 seconds, followed by Kenyan Samuel Mzaniki Theuri (2:08:56) and Ukrainian Oleksandr Sitkovsky (2: 09: 11), the great revelation of this edition.
Moroccans Laalami Cherkaoui (2: 15: 25), Said EL Baazouzi (2: 17: 03) and Ahouchar Hassan (2: 17: 12) were respectively ranked 13th, 14th and 15th overall.
Ladies side, the Ethiopian Wolkenech Edesa, ran the race in 2 h31 min 06 seconds, followed by Kenyan Valary Aiyabei (2: 31: 57) and the other Ethiopian Saeda Kedir adilo (2: 32: 13) .
Organized under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the 26th edition of the international marathon and half marathon of Marrakech was attended by over 7,500 participants from all continents, almost 70 Top Runners.
This edition has paid tribute to a great Moroccan marathon champion, namely, Jaouad Gharib.
To remind that the MIM has been placed, according to the IAAF rankings among the top ranked in the world stage marathons, or the Top-6 during the 1 st season of 2013 and the Top 11 in the 3rd season (until 31/12/2013).
MIM is organized by the Association Grand Atlas, with the support of Ministry of Youth and Sports, FRMA, the Wilaya, the Council of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz region and the city council of Marrakech.
