The American astronaut in Marrakech to share her NASA experience

imageThe eminent American astronaut Mary Ellen Weber, gave Friday night at the Faculty of Science and Technology in Marrakech, a lecture on his work experience and space missions in which she participated within NASA.

In front of a room packed to the rafters, Mary Ellen Weber, wearing a diving suit, held in suspense for an hour of students and teachers came to the knowledge of the profession and passion of the American astronaut.

The meeting was marked by the screening of episodes of the popular television series American documentary “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” (Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey).

Guided tours were also organized for assistance in “Planetarium”, a dome with a reproduction of the sky with its constellations and stars, gift of the US Embassy in Morocco.

Organized by the Embassy of the United States in Morocco, in coordination with the Moroccan Association Scientific and astronomy Association of Rabat, this series of lectures given by Mary Ellen Weber traveled Tangiers (January 20) through Fez (January 21), Rabat (22 January) to land in Marrakech (23 January).

Born in 1962 in Cleveland (Ohio), Mary Ellen Weber earned a doctorate in physical chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley in 1988.

She was selected by NASA in the fourteenth group of astronauts in 1992. During his ten-year career at NASA, she held several positions. She was responsible in particular within the Astronaut Office of the preparations for the shuttle launch center at Kennedy Space Center and the development of science and the development of standards and methods for the crew sciences training.

She made two space flights (STS and STS -101 -70) and was among the youngest to fly in space.

Mary Ellen Weber is a recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal.
