Amman – The end of the Minurso mission provides an opportunity to put an end to the mechanism of conflict management and break away from outdated UN formulas, Jordanian writer Amal Jabbour said.
Against the backdrop of the non-renewal of the UN mission’s mandate, Jabbour said that Morocco had moved from a traditional process in which the conflict had remained deadlocked for decades to a new political path more closely aligned with its vision for a settlement, attributing this success to the Kingdom’s in-depth analysis of international developments.
In this regard, she pointed out that Morocco is now addressing the issue through a clear UN framework and a precise vision of a settlement, particularly as the Moroccan autonomy initiative is gaining increasing international support.
The Jordanian writer and journalist also stressed that Morocco had capitalized on the vote as an opportunity to redirect the overall course of the issue.
“Such a turning point would not have been possible without the political and UN foundation established by Resolution 2797, adopted in October 2025, which established the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative under Moroccan sovereignty as the only basis for the negotiation process.”
