Morocco Elected to Develop Industrial Model Rooted in Africa, Linked to Global Value Chains – Minister

Rabat – Morocco has elected to develop an open and integrated industrial model, deeply rooted in Africa and linked to global value chains, said on Tuesday in Rabat the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali.

Speaking at the opening of the 3rd International Mining Congress (IMC Morocco 2026), Benali underlined that this choice aims to strengthen responsible mining, improve traceability, facilitate access to sustainable financing, and support larger value creation on the continent.

Recalling that Africa has an exceptional geological potential, she estimated that the challenge now is to strengthen its capacity to make further profit from the value of its resources.

In this respect, she called for the networking of African complementarities in resources, transformation capacity, energy, infrastructure, technology, abilities, and financing, in order to give rise to an integrated and sustainable industrial ecosystem that is connected to international markets.

“The true question is knowing whether Africa, collectively, can capture a larger and more strategic share of the value chains built around its resources,” she argued.
