His Majesty the King’s Leadership “Leads the Way” in the Fight Against Hate Speech (Moratinos)

United Nations (New York) – The leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI is leading the way for the international community in combating hate speech and promoting tolerance, coexistence, and mutual respect, said Miguel Ángel Moratinos, the United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), on Thursday in New York.

“His Majesty the King has shown us the way. He has shown us how to address problems in order to foster the emergence of an international society capable of creating the conditions for tolerance and mutual respect”, Moratinos told the press on the sidelines of the World Conference on Combating Hate Speech through the Promotion of Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue and Tolerance, co-organized by Morocco, the UN, and UNAOC.

Thanks to this leadership, Morocco is today a “model, spearheading initiatives that, like today’s, are taking shape on the international stage”, Moratinos emphasized, welcoming the support for this initiative from dozens of UN member states and numerous civil society organizations.

In this context, the UNAOC High Representative welcomed the success of the Kingdom’s initiatives, which have often resulted in international declarations and concrete action plans.

Moratinos thus highlighted the “contribution” and efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco in drafting international declarations, citing in particular the adoption of the Marrakesh Action Plan and the Rabat Action Plan.

“Morocco is leading the way, and His Majesty the King’s vision shows the path to follow to achieve the desired goals”, he said.
