Lalla Asmaa Foundation’s “NASMAA” Program is an Unprecedented Model Shared with Several Countries Throughout the World – Brigadier General Surgeon

Rabat – The “NASMAA” program of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation is a unique model that the Kingdom is committed to sharing with several countries in Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America, said Brigadier General Fouad Benariba, Head of the Cranial Surgery Unit at the Mohammed V Military Training Hospital in Rabat.

This successful program embodies the ongoing long-term commitment to cover every child suffering from hearing impairment or severe deafness, from diagnosis to medical follow-up, including hearing rehabilitation and speech therapy, he told the press on the occasion of the visit paid by HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa, President of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, and Rachel Ruto, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya and President of the “Voice of Children Foundation,” to Moroccan and Kenyan children at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, having benefited from a cochlear implant, as part of the 4th phase of the international program “United, We Hear Each Other Better” and the “NASMAA” national campaign.

Implemented under the impetus of HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa, the national “NASMAA” program, which benefits Moroccan children, aligns directly with the Royal Vision aimed at providing healthcare, promoting innovation, strengthening solidarity, and sharing Moroccan expertise with brotherly and friendly countries in Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America, he continued.

Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of the international program “United, We Hear Each Other Better,” which has enabled Kenyan children, alongside other patients in Africa and beyond, to benefit from cochlear implants, recalling the operation conducted by the Moroccan medical staff in Nairobi in November 2025, which has already benefited 70 Kenyan children.

For his part, Prof. Abdelaziz Raji, head of the ENT department at the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Marrakech, stressed that sharing expertise with the various partners of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation’s “NASMAA” Program serves as an essential lever to advance the treatment of deafness in Africa.

“Exchanging expertise with our partner colleagues has allowed us to harmonize and optimize patient care,” noted Prof. Raji, member of the technical and scientific committee of the “NASMAA” Program, adding that thanks to cochlear implants, patients regain their hearing after surgery and achieve full social integration.

On this occasion, he recalled that to date, the program has enabled surgeries for more than 1,050 Moroccan children and adults requiring cochlear implants, noting also that over 391 children from 22 countries in Africa, the Arab World, and Latin America have also benefited from the “United, We Hear Better” program.

For her part, Prof. Leila Skalli, Head of the ENT Department at the Specialties Hospital within the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Territorial Health Group, highlighted the personal commitment of HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa, through the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, in service of the cause of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, noting that managing deafness requires an approach where proximity and support for the patient and their family are essential.

Currently, the Lalla Asmaa Foundation’s national “NASMAA” program stands as a successful model, built on long-term effort that has accumulated recognized experience and expertise at both the continental and international levels, she maintained.
