Tunis – The Tunisian army has discovered 61 camps of terrorist groups in the southern regions of Tunisia, between 2014 and 2015, said Saturday the spokesman of the Ministry of Defence.
Tunisian forces also found a number of holes dug by terrorists as a refuge in case of clashes with the army or pits to hide their dead, said the commander Belhassen Oueslati.
These tactics are part “of the war ghosts intended to sow doubt among the armed forces and the people, and confirmation of success in the fight against these elements,” he has noted .
Regarding the campaign for a fortnight in the Mont Salloum, on the Algerian border, the military spokesman stressed that it is involved in the continuity of the successful operations of the National Guard (Gendarmerie), recalling that offensive has resulted in the elimination of 10 of the 18 items circled and defusing 17 mines.
The Tunisian army will face “any attempt to lawlessness or smuggled from Libya,” he assured, announcing the installation of checkpoints for the purpose.
Since summer 2013, when the first terrorist attack in Mount Chaambi which resulted in casualties among the police, the Tunisian security forces have stepped up anti-terrorist operations particularly in the south of the country, managing to thwart the plans of the groups armed to strengthen their presence throughout the border with Algeria.
Last March, the capital Tunis was badly hit by a terrorist attack, which targeted the Bardo Museum killing 24 people (21 tourists, an agent of the security forces and two assailants).
