Casablanca – The 10KM International by WeCasablanca will return for a new edition on Sunday, June 6, 2027, the organizers of this sporting event announced Thursday in Casablanca, aiming to continue the momentum built since the race’s inception in 2017.
This announcement was made during a press conference dedicated to the launch of this edition, organized by Casablanca Events & Animation, which intends to strengthen the event’s appeal to Moroccan and international runners and contribute to Casablanca’s prestige.
Speaking at the event, the CEO of Casablanca Events & Animation, Mohamed Jouahri, indicated that this meeting was part of an effort to present the qualitative and quantitative results of the 2026 edition, expressing the organizing team’s satisfaction with the results achieved, particularly in terms of participation.
The race, he noted in a statement to MAP, generated considerable enthusiasm, with over 16,000 runners participating and an international presence representing more than sixty nationalities.
This international reach, he said, contributes to Casablanca’s prestige, one of the event’s objectives being to raise the city’s profile among participants and foreign visitors, particularly during race week.
For his part, the race’s technical director, Mustapha Benslimane, emphasized, in a similar statement, the high level of participation in the 2026 edition, notably marked by the presence of athletes who have won medals at the Mediterranean Games and World Championships.
He cited several athletes who participated in the race, noting that their presence testifies to the caliber of the field assembled in Casablanca.
For the next edition, he expressed his ambition for an “even larger and higher-caliber” participation, with more big names in athletics.
The press conference also provided an opportunity to present the results of the previous edition, which saw 16,254 participants representing 63 nationalities, including nearly 1,000 international runners. The field of athletes also included a significant delegation of elite athletes, while the main thoroughfares of Casablanca hosted the event in a lively, popular atmosphere.
In the men’s race, Moroccan Hicham Ouladha won in 27:59, ahead of Yassine El Allami and Ethiopian Biniyam Melak. In the women’s race, Ethiopian Chane Fentaya Adane took the victory, followed by Moroccan Fatima Zahra Birdaha.
The race also serves as a stepping stone for athletes who have continued their progress on the international stage. Likina Amebaw, winner of the 2025 edition in 29:55, secured the 5km road world title on September 19, 2026, in Copenhagen, with a time of 14:41.
Fatima Zahra Birdaha, runner-up in the 10KM International by WeCasablanca 2026, won the gold medal in the 5,000m at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, with a personal best of 15:07:40, before also winning the half-marathon, thus securing two Mediterranean titles. In the men’s events, Hicham Ouladha won the bronze medal in the 10,000m at the same Games.
These performances illustrate the 10KM International by Casablanca’s mission to provide athletes with a high-level competition platform and to facilitate their participation against the national and international elite.
The 2026 edition was also marked by the signing of three twinning agreements with the 10KM Valencia Ibercaja by Kiprun, the 10KM International of Dchira-Laâyoune, and the 10KM International of Dakhla. These agreements aim to promote the sharing of expertise, cooperation between organizers, and the development of road races in Morocco and internationally.
The 10KM International Village by Casablanca serves as a meeting and entertainment space before the race. It brings together participants, partners, and the public around a program of activities, exhibitions, and meetings, while also incorporating a digital registration and bib collection process.
For the 2027 edition, the officially approved course from the 2026 edition will be used again, allowing participants to experience a route through the heart of Casablanca’s main thoroughfares, in competition conditions that meet international road race standards.
