Morocco’s stand over the Sahara issue is “firm and strict”, said communication minister, government spokesperson Mustapha Khalfi, noting that Morocco “will remain in its Sahara and the Sahara will remain in its Morocco”.

In an interview on the latest developments of the Moroccan Sahara issue, published by the MENA News Agency, the minister recalled the recent statements made by UNSG Ban Ki moon who used the term “occupation” to describe Morocco’s presence in its Sahara, underlining that Ban’s predecessors have never committed such verbal blunder.

In its resolutions, the UNSC have never used this word, Khalfi said, stressing that the said term runs blatantly against the UN lexicon concerning the Moroccan Sahara issue and takes the matter back to the starting point.

The Moroccan people have expressed their position over the UNSG’s statements by staging, recently in Rabat, a march bringing together over 3 million protesters to condemn Ban’s blunders over the Moroccan Sahara, the minister said, deploring the fact that, despite demonstrations held even in the Kingdom’s southern provinces, the UNSG is unfortunately persisting in his position which prompted Morocco to reduce a large part of MINURSO’s civil component, mainly the political segment, annul its voluntary contribution for MINURSO’s functioning and examine the withdrawal of Moroccan contingents in peacekeeping operations
