Morocco and Sweden have agreed to give new impetus to their relations on “good bases”, Morocco’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, said here Tuesday.

Swedish State and government expressed clearly their unconditional commitment to give new impetus and strengthen their relations with Morocco, Alami told MAP following his talks with Swedish Minister for Home Affairs, Anders Ygeman, and State Secretary to Minister for Enterprise and Innovation and head of the Ministry, Oscar Stenstr?m.

“We felt that there is a commitment from the Swedish government. They understood that they had chosen a wrong path and want to start afresh on the right foot after learning about the national cause”, the speaker pointed out.

Talbi El Alami deemed the new position of Sweden as “a very good start” to put Moroccan-Swedish relations back on track, adding that Sweden is determined to reinforce economic ties with Morocco and benefit from the opportunities it offers as a hub for investment in Africa.

Morocco’s Speaker, who is on two-day visit to Stockholm and met with a number of senior Swedish officials, noted that his talks stressed on the need to create, as soon as possible, a joint committee to boost Moroccan-Swedish cooperation in different fields.

This visit comes after the Swedish government announced that it has no intention to recognize the “Western Sahara” as a Sstate, reaffirming Sweden’s support to the ongoing UN-led negotiations over the Sahara issue.
