“Polisario is a puppet entity that does not represent Sahrawis,” said Morocco’s foreign minister, Salaheddine Mezouar, in an interview with Panamanian newspaper “La Estrella”.
“Polisario does not represent Sahrawis. Sahrawis live in the Sahara while Polisario is a puppet entity established on Algerian territory in an area called Tindouf,” Mezouar pointed out in the interview published Monday by the Panamanian newspaper.
“We want all Sahrawis to return to their motherland, Morocco, and several people how had been sequestered in Tindouf returned to Morocco”, he said, noting that 90 pc of Polisario leaders have already returned to their motherland, Morocco.
All Sahrawis in the southern provinces of the kingdom strongly support the autonomy plan in the Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, the minister said, reiterating Morocco’s commitment to the ongoing negotiations under UN auspices to reach a political solution to the conflict.
Regarding relations between Panama and Morocco, Mezouar said that the kingdom seeks to promote strong relationships based on trust and mutual interests with Panama.
During his visit to Panama, the two countries signed partnership and cooperation agreements.
The agreements cover the fields of ports, maritime transport, logistics, academic diplomatic training and culture.
