Rabat Climate Forum Helped Made Huge Strides, European Commission
The international forum on national contributions, in prospect of COP21, organized on Oct. 12-13 in Rabat, helped made huge leaps but much remains to be done, said the European Commission.
The Rabat high-level meeting enabled to show the important progress concerning contributions for the new convention on climate which will be concluded during the Paris conference on climate change (COP21) next December, but this is not enough, European Commission spokesperson for Climate action and energy Anna Kaisa Itkonen told MAP.
The Rabat forum was held by Morocco, the European Commission, the UNDP and the UNEP. It brought together some 200 participants, mainly ministers, government representatives and experts, from over 40 countries.
Kaisa Itkonen recalled that up to date, 150 countries generating 90% of the emissions of greenhouse gases, presented their national contributions, which is a reduction rate of 3%, noting that efforts are still needed to reach the goal of containing global warming under 2C.
She stressed that the Paris convention should come up with a shared vision about set objectives and a coordinated approach on the basis of firm commitments by states.
