Niamey- From 2011-2015, some 1.4 billion dollars were mobilized by donors for humanitarian work in Niger, a financing rate of 82 pc of the required needs according to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Niamey.
A total of $ 1.7 billion was required for humanitarian work in Niger through the Strategic Response Plan (CAP / SRP), said the same source.
And to emphasize that thanks to funds made available by donors, humanitarian actors in support of the government, have provided humanitarian assistance including the development of resilience of the affected communities by food insecurity, malnutrition, epidemics and natural catastrophes.
This assistance was for the benifit of vulnerable migrants, refugees, the displaced and the host communities, OCHA adds lamenting a downward trend since 2012, both in terms of financial needs only one received funding.
All years are marked by a recurrence of food insecurity and malnutrition in Niger, with a peak to food insecurity in 2010, informed the UN organization, noting that in 2012 and 2013, the situation s’ worsened with the influx of displaced persons from Libya, Côte d’Ivoire and Mali as well as floods that affected more than 500,000 people.
As for 2014 and 2015, OCHA focuses on a substantial flow of population movements due to the security situation in Northeast Nigeria, in addition to a significant increase in the number of food insecure compared to 2012-2013.
