The city of Khouribga is alive this weekend with the rhythm of the 8th edition of the “Streets Art” Festival, a cultural event that kicked off on Saturday at Place des Moudjahidine, transforming the city into an open space for creation that brilliantly blends contemporary urban expression with authentic popular heritage.
Under the theme “Our Streets, a Source of Art,” this two-day event (October 24 and 25), initiated by the “Ibdaa Association for Physical Expression Theater and Street Arts,” aims to bring culture closer to citizens and make public spaces a true crossroads of interaction and artistic exchange.
The opening ceremony was marked by a vibrant tribute to leading figures who have left their mark on the artistic scene, namely the artists “El Massih El Marrakchi” and Abdelilah Amal, as well as the Khouribga native and world breakdancing champion, Bilal Mallakh (Billy). This recognition crowns their exceptional careers and their contributions to enriching the local and international cultural scene.
The activities of this edition continue with a rich program offering captivating performances by a host of national and international artists. The organizers are thus committed to building bridges between modern urban arts and popular arts rooted in collective memory, fostering intergenerational dialogue and the promotion of intangible heritage.
The program also emphasizes exchange through the organization of open meetings with the festival’s guests. These discussion forums offer the public a valuable opportunity to draw inspiration from the experiences of these artists and to exchange perspectives on the realities and future prospects of street arts.
Organized with the support of, among others, the Department of Culture, the OCP Group, and the City Council, in partnership with the “Act4Community” program, this edition confirms the importance of creative industries as a driver of socio-economic development, a catalyst for urban vibrancy, and a means of enhancing the cultural appeal of the phosphate capital.
